Emily St.Clair-Lee
Owner of the Art Room
The Art Room first opened at 8 William St. in Clinton NY in order to give kids an opportunity to learn more about art and experiment with drawing and design principles in an organized, smaller class setting.
Kids are encouraged to explore and experiment by using a variety of materials from cardboard tubes, plastic bottles, to artist quality paints, fabrics, sequins, markers, papers and more!
Kids should be able to take home a piece of art that they can feel proud of.
Students should feel free to express their creativity, by offering options in materials and guidelines.
Classes begin with a simple warm up activity
The first hour- hour and a half is spent on drawing and painting and talking about the
history behind the piece of Art chosen as our topic.
Then we break for lunch.
The second half of the class is spent creating something 3-D. Students are encouraged to create a 3-D piece based on the drawing/ painting topic. Students are encouraged to create this piece out of fabrics, wire, wood, cardboard, modeling clay....to use glue guns, sewing machines, screws, tape, etc.
The goal of each class is for a student to leave with a positive experience and something tangilble that they created and reflects something that they have learned. At the Art Room this experience should meet two objectives:
Free form experimentation, as in our 3-d projects.
The Business of the Art Room is run by Emily J. St. Clair-Lee.
